  • MotoGP Indonesian GP: Jorge Martin Takes Pole Position, Francesco Bagnaia Wins Sprint Race at Mandalika

  • The Round 15 of MotoGP 2024, Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia took place at Mandalika International Street Circuit Central Lombok, Indonesia on September 28, 2024.

Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Aprilia) did not take part in qualifying after the Portuguese rider fractured his wrist in a crash in Friday's practice.
In Qualifying, Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) took his sixth pole position of the season with a lap record 1m 29.088s.
Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) finished 2nd despite crashing at Turn 16 just two minutes left in the qualifying session. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) was 3rd.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) and Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) could not improve their best laps due to being stuck behind a crashing Marco Bezzecchi, finishing 4th and 5th respectively.
Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha) was 6th and will start on the second row for Sunday's race.
Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) advanced to Q2 from Q1 and finished 7th. This marks the second time he made it into Q2 this season.
Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati), and Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) were 8th and 9th each and will start on the third row beside Johann Zarco.
Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) crashed twice, at Turn 15 and Turn 10, and failed to set the time, finishing in 12th place.

Jorge Martin said, “I'm so happy. Today I felt great. It went perfectly so this is always nice. I was riding with a lot of used tyres.”
  • In the Sprint Race, Francesco Bagnaia took his fifth Sprint Race victory of the season, dominating the race from start to finish.
His team-mate Enea Bastianini finished in 2nd place. Marc Marquez earned his seventh sprint podium of the season after climbing from 12th to 3rd.
Pole sitter Jorge Martin got off to a great start, but crashed at the penultimate Turn 16 right-hander on the opening lap.
He returned to the race quickly, but finished 10th, failing to score a single point in the sprint.
This result marks Francesco Bagnaia has cut Jorge Martin's lead in the overall standings to 12 points.
Marco Bezzecchi was running in 2nd, but ran wide to avoid smashing into the rear of Francesco Bagnaia by just inches at Turn 10 on lap seven, eventually finishing 4th.
Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) was 5th to make it a Ducati 1-2-3-4-5.
  • Francesco Bagnaia said, “Everybody knows how important it was to gain points, we gained 12 so thanks to the mistake from Jorge we are close back again. I'm a believer, so I am always believing I will win both the races. It was not easy. My feeling during all of the weekend was not the best. I improved a lot this morning. During qualifying I understood something in the second sector, and now I think we did something incredible. The pace was fantastic, Jorge crashed on the first lap, but it was difficult for me to open a gap. And when I saw Jorge entering that corner, I said 'if he closes that line, I will take four seconds', because he was entering much, much, much faster and with a lot of lean angle. But today the conditions were very hot, 63 degrees on the asphalt, so I think for me it's the worst every track we tried - the most strange, difficult conditions we ever tried during a weekend this season. So, it wasn't easy to perform there and when I saw the crash I started to be faster in the other three sectors but there I was very slow. So, I was controlling a bit, saying I have to push in the first three to control in the last. And it worked. For tomorrow it will not work, but I'm happy for today.”
