MotoGP Emilia Romagna GP: Enea Bastianini Wins in Emilia-Romagna after Dramatic Final Lap Showdown with Jorge Martin
Gran Premio Pramac dell'Emilia-Romagna took place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico on September 22, 2024.
Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) overtook Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) on the final lap to take his second victory of the season at his home.
This marks Ducati's 100th grand victory in the premier class.
Jorge Martin overtook pole sitter Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) on lap 4 to take the lead of the race. However, his lead was snatched by Enea Bastianini, who made an aggressive pass on him at the Turn 4 right-hander, sending him off the track on the final lap. Jorge Martin ultimately finished in 2nd place.
Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) took 3rd place. It is a third podium in a row, following Aragon GP and San Marino GP.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia ran in 3rd place behind Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini, but crashed out on lap 21. With this result, Jorge Martin now has a 24-point lead over Francesco Bagnaia in the championship.
Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) was 4th, while Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) was 5th and Ducati completed the top five.
Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) climbed from the lower region of the top 10 to finish 6th and 8th respectively. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha) was caught between the Aprilia duo and finished 7th.
Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) and Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse Aprilia) rounded out the top 10.- Enea Bastianini said, “Has been a very difficult this overtake, but when you have the chance to win the race you have to do it. You have to enter. Yes, it was a bit on the limit but in the end it was the only choice because without this possibility it was impossible for me because on the rest of the track Martin was super nice and was the only possibility for me. Probably was the only opportunity for me, because in the sector number three from the exit from Turn 10 he was so strong. I don't know why but at the end of the long straight I was always 0.2s, 0.3 behind. It was the only opportunity to try to win the race. It was a big emotion about the 100 grand prix win for Ducati, and also because I made the overtake in front of my fan club with the pink clouds of smoke. It was so nice. This is a beautiful day for me.”
Jorge Martin said, “It was a nice race, it was really tough - at the beginning I was struggling to overtake Pecco. I was confident with that pace, trying to keep it constant but then I saw Enea was arriving. Then I just tried to close the gap, the manner was maybe a bit too much because he pushed me out of the track so I couldn't fight back. I think I was the stronger, I think I deserved the victory, but it is OK and I will try again next one.”
Marc Marquez said, “Before I started the race we said fourth place would be a good result for us. I was looking for that place and trying to control Acosta, and in one moment I saw Bagnaia struggling a bit but then he started to push. He was riding an incredible pace and when I saw his mistake I was on the podium. Today was a present, this podium, because the three guys were faster than us, but I'm happy.I'm happy the way the team is working and now it's time to keep the mentality and keep the concentration, because now we are going to Asia and anything can happen.” - Gran Premio Pramac dell'Emilia-Romagna Race Results
