  • MotoGP San Marino GP: Francesco Bagnaia Takes Pole Position & Jorge Martin Wins Sprint Race at Misano

  • The Round 13 of MotoGP 2024, Gran Premio Red Bull di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini took place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico on September 7, 2024.

This time, Repsol Honda's Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) has withdrawn from the event due to intense gastroenteritis.
In Qualifying, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) took his second pole position of the season with a lap record 1'30.304s, following Dutch TT GP.
Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) took 2nd position behind Francesco Bagnaia by 0.285s. It is his first front row since 2021.
Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) clinched 3rd. This marks an all-Ducati top three and a clean sweep of the front row for Valentino Rossi's VR46 Academy.
Current Championship leader Jorge Martin was 4th. Followed by, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) was 5th. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) advanced to Q2 from Q1 and will start on the second row on Sunday's race.
Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati), who won Aragon GP for the first time in three years, crashed at Turn 15 during Q2 and ended up 9th.

Francesco Bagnaia said, “I'm very proud of this day because it's a great chapter for the Academy. It's good because we also train a lot here. So it's the first time that all together (we) can show the fruit out of the work we do every time here. So, very happy about it and I'm very happy also because the pace is super good. My feeling on the bike is fantastic. But luckily while I'm riding, I feel OK, so this is good.”
  • In the Sprint Race, Jorge Martin claimed his fifth victory of the season. He made a rocket start from 4th and dominating the race from start to finish.
Francesco Bagnaia finished in the 2nd place. This marks Jorge Martin increased his title lead over Francesco Bagnaia to 26 points.
Franco Morbidelli took the 3rd place ahead of a charging Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Marc Marquez.
It is his first podium of the season and is his first MotoGP top three since 2021.
Starting on the front row, Marco Bezzecchi and his team-mate Fabio di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati), both crashed out on lap 4.
Rookie Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM), and Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top 9 and scored points.
  • Jorge Martin said, “Yeah, well it feels really good to win always. This is the most important thing. I am happy that I gave my 100%. So tomorrow I will give it also. And if it's a second I will be even as happy as today. But the target is still there, the target is to win and I will give my maximum. It was an amazing start. I think the reaction was incredible, more than the start. The start was good, but the reaction was impressive. I saw that the other ones hadn't started yet and I was already far, far in front. Afterwards I saw Pecco brake a bit early, so I went for it and everything went perfect. After that, in first position I was really comfortable, really confident, I always ride by myself. So it was a normal condition for me. I don't think it will be crucial (Sunday's tyre choice). I think it's more it will be difficult. I think both tyres have the potential of victory, so for sure it will be interesting this evening to try to understand. But I am also quite relaxed because I think I have the potential on either soft or medium.”
