MotoGP Aragon GP: Marc Marquez Takes First Win Since 2021, Francesco Bagnaia & Alex Marquez in Huge Crash
Gran Premio GoPro de Aragón watched Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) took his first MotoGP victory in three years at the MotorLand Aragón in Alcañiz on September 1, 2024.
Marc Marquez was leading from start to finish the race, as with Sprint Race yesterday, ending a 1043-day victory drought.
Finally, he won the race with a five-second margin from Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati), who finished in 2nd place.
This marks his 60th victory in the premier class and his first victory since the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) was 3rd, taking the third podium of 2024.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) battled for the 3rd place, but both riders made contact at Turn 12 on Lap 19, and retired from the race.
This marks Jorge Martin now leads the Championship with 23 points over Francesco Bagnaia.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), Enea Bastianini (Pramac Ducati), and Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati) were 4th, 5th and 6th, respectively.
Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) receive 16-second post-race penalties for low tyre pressure, and finally was 7th.
Alex Rins (Monster Yamaha) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) rounded out the top 10. Especially, Alex Rins got highest classification of 2024 on the Yamaha M1.- Marc Marquez said, “It was an amazing race, it was incredible to win in front of this amazing crowd. Today was a super difficult race especially because when you have the pace, the gap was difficult to full-focus on the riding on the last 10 laps. I was able to manage the gap well, I had something more just in case but I'm happy. I saw it (Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez crashed out). And I think that Alex went wide. He was in the track, but when you arrive on that right corner, he didn't expect to have Pecco [Bagnaia] there. Pecco was optimistic to overtake him from the outside, trying to use that clean line, because if you go out on the dirty line everything becomes more risky. It was a very unlucky situation. I hope both of them are okay.”
- He continued, “Some very nice people, a very nice family, very nice girlfriend, a brother, and all these people that are helping me day by day. One year ago, I was just thinking about [whether to] stop my career or continue. Someday I will retire. But when I will retire, I will not have any question mark about my possibilities. I will try everything to be longer and longer and longer in my career and to be competitive. And the Gresini team gave me this opportunity and I tried to enjoy it. I tried to use this opportunity like a rookie rider, like trying to work more than ever. And I'm super happy after that long four years to come back at the top of the podium. It was super long. The first time I checked the laps was between 14 or 12 and I still had a lot of the race to go. But it was super, super difficult to keep the concentration. That was the most difficult part, because I was riding super good. In the middle of the race, even my head start to [think about being] around the podium but just I try, I try to push there to keep again the concentration. When I crossed the finish line, it was amazing feeling.”
