MotoGP British GP: Enea Bastianini Wins British GP in Silverstone, Jorge Martin Reclaims Title Lead
Monster Energy British Grand Prix took place at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone as the 75th anniversary of motorcycle grand prix racing on August 4, 2024.
All bikes and riders were using a special retro livery to celebrate the 75th anniversary.
Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) took back-to-back wins following the Sprint Race yesterday.
This marks his first victory and the fifth podium of the season.
Jorge Martin (Pramac Ducati) finished in 2nd place behind Enea Bastianini by 1.931seconds.
Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) was 3rd, which means Jorge Martin has the championship lead, albeit by just three points.
A five-rider group, including Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, poleman Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing), Enea Bastianini, and Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati) led the race.
And then, Jorge Martin moved up to the top on lap 13, and Enea Bastianini followed him, after overtaking his team-mate Francesco Bagnaia on lap 14.
Jorge Martin led the race until 2 laps to go, but went wide into Village, and was over taken by Enea Bastianini.
And then, Enea Bastianini held the top and took the checkered flag.
Marc Marquez was 4th ahed of Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati). Poleman Aleix Espargaro finally finished on 6th place.
Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati), Marco Bezzecchi (VR46 Ducati), Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and Franco Morbidelli (Pramac Ducati) rounded out the top 10.- Enea Bastianini said, “I'm so happy about the results of this weekend for me," said Bastianini straight after the race. I have thought a lot in this summer break to understand where it was possible to do something more. I checked with my pace and during the races it was always good enough to be on the podium in every race. But every time, starting from behind, I missed many times the time attack. During this weekend the approach for the time attack was good. Yesterday was my first victory in the sprint and today in the real race. I'm very happy to win the 75th Anniversary grand prix. For the moment, I don't think I'm a title contender. Pecco and Jorge have demonstrated more consistency than me in every race and these two riders are always on top. Sometimes I have felt something but been behind. If I want to be a title contender I have to improve in that direction. I want to continue like this for the rest of the championship. If at the end of the championship I have this opportunity, we will see. We will see. I don't understand Ducati's choice because they have lost two riders like me and Jorge. But I respect this decision. About KTM, I think it will be a good bike for me but I haven't tried this bike and if you don't try you cannot explain what's the strongest point compared to the Ducati.”
