Tate McRae Releases New Song “rubberband”, Performs “You Broke Me First” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae unveiled a new song “rubberband” on January 20, 2021.
The song follows up "R U OK", which was released back in December 2020, and will appear on her upcoming sophomore EP.
It was written by Victoria Zaro, Natalie Solomon, Andrew Goldstein, Jacob Kasher and Tate McRae. Produced by NALIYA and Andrew Goldstein.
The accompanying music video was directed by Black Lake.
The concept of the song stems from a rubberband that she wears around her wrist and occasionally snaps when she feels anxious.
Tate McRae told Atwood Magazine, “We wanted to get across — there's this thing that people do, when they snap a rubber band it's usually to overcome something and whether that's an addiction or if that's depression or anxiety or anything, it's something that you fidget with.”- Z1IA_75pOgA

The track was released last April. The music video was filmed Tate McRae herself.
She shared on social media, “during a global pandemic i put together a music video. this was taped to the front of my moms car, driving backwards, being filmed on my iphone, on a random rooftop. can't believe we actually put something together in this crazy time. directed this on my own:) &very very grateful for my team. i rlly hope u guys enjoy this song i wrote. it means a lot to me. love you guys 🖤”-
