Melanie Martinez Releases New EP “After School”: Streaming
American singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez released her brand-new EP “After School” on September 25th.
On the same day, she dropped a new music video for “The Bakery” directed by Melanie Martinez herself.
The 7-track EP follows up her sophomore album “K-12” released in 2019.
Last year she told V Magazine about the EP, “I have songs in the future, like next year or something, that I'm going to be putting out that are in-line with this record and what-not, like bonus tracks that just open up. Those songs are more personal and more vulnerable in that way where I definitely have a break up song that's very, very specific. But those are the things we talk about in those moments. You make sure that both people understand that no matter what, everything is for the arts and music and it's a moment of vulnerability that comes up. It expresses itself in the form of a song, you know? I think naturally and organically seeing what that is is important.”
She has worked on the EP since 2017. Melanie Martinez said, “I've been working on the After School EP since 2017. Over the course of these 3 years I've learned a lot and each of the songs act as a marker/screenshot for a certain emotion/lesson I was dealing with.”
She explained track by track for the EP below.- “Notebook”

“Glued”

“Field Trip”
“💗Field Trip is a more personal song about some of the intricacies of who I am as a human. Being an empath, a life path 11 (bridge between the divine and the material) The duality of my Triple Taurus and triple Scorpio placements. The contrast between what my mother was going to name me when I was in the womb ( katarina- pure light) and what she ended up naming me the minute I was born (Melanie - darkness) and also a reminder that whatever imaginary box people put me in I will always find a way out.
