Shawn Mendes Premieres New Song “If I Can't Have You” on Apple Beats 1
Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes premiered a new song “If I Can't Have You” on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show.
The song was released with an accompanying music video, following his 2018 self-titled album. It was written by Teddy Geiger, Scott Harris, Nate Mercereau and Shawn Mendes.
He described the song as a confident pop record, and he wrote 45 songs in the last six months. Also originally, he wrote the song for Dua Lipa.
He said, “I had the song stuck in my head for 2 months before we got in and finished it!!! Truthfully, my inspiration behind the song musically was from The 1975 ! Not to say it sounds crazy like them but I was obsessed with their album while making this song!
This song was done so fast, it seems to be a pattern with my favourite songs. When it feels right it comes quick.”
He added, “This is the one that consistently every time I play it for myself, or for friends and family, it has just given people that smile.”
