Video: George Harrison and Paul Simon Performed “Here Comes the Sun” and “Homeward Bound” on Saturday Night Live
Back in November 20, 1976, George Harrison of The Beatles appeared on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest, where he performed "Here Comes the Sun" and "Homeward Bound" with the show's host Paul Simon.
Their performance live is known as one of the absolute best in Saturday Night Live 40-plus years history.
At that time, Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels offered The Beatles to regroup for $3,000 on the TV program. Of course, it didn't happen.
But George Harrison appeared on SNL. At the backstage via the monitors, "See, I thought you would understand that it was $3,000 for four people, and it would just be $750 for each of you," Michaels told Harrison. "As far as I'm concerned, you can have the full $3,000." And Harrison replied, "That's pretty chintzy."
"Here Comes the Sun" was released from the Beatles' album "Abbey Road" in September 1969. The song was written by George Harrison, produced by George Martin. "Here Comes the Sun" is one of Harrison's best-known Beatles compositions alongside "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
"Homeward Bound" was included on Simon & Garfunkel's third studio album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme". The song was recorded during the sessions for their second album "Sounds of Silence". Written by Paul Simon, the song was composed in 1964 during his period in England.
