Billy Idol Releases New Song “77” featuring Avril Lavigne
British punk rock singer-songwriter Billy Idol will release his upcoming ninth studio album “Dream Into It” this Friday (April 25).
From the album, he released a new song “77” on April 22, 2025.
The song is the second and final pre-release single from the album, following “Still Dancing” released back in February.
On the track, he teamed up with Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne.
This marks the first collaboration between Billy Idol and Avril Lavigne.
The track was written by Billy Idol, Nick Long, Steve Stevens, and Tommy English, who also produced it.
Billy Idol and Avril Lavigne will perform the song on on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 28, 2025.
Billy Idol said of the song, “It came out really fantastic. She's incredible, and the song just came alive. It was already good with me on it, but it got three times better with her on it.”- The new album comprises 9 songs, featuring guest appearances from Avril Lavigne, American singer-songwriter Alison Mosshart and American singer-songwriter Joan Jett.
It is his first album in 11 years since the 2014 album “Kings & Queens of the Underground.”
He will premiere a documentary “Billy Idol Should Be Dead” at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on June 10, 2025. The album was inspired by the film. -
Billy Idol told UCR about the album, “We were doing a documentary and so when I came to make this album, I just bounced off the documentary because that's literally what we were doing. Writing a song about 1977, writing a song about coming to America and what it was like in those days. So the album is a little bit about the story of my life, almost in chronological order. But this is telling a story, that's the story of my life. Really, that's what Dream Into It is about.”
