Matt Berninger Releases New Song “Breaking Into Acting” featuring Hand Habits
American alt-rock band The National's frontman Matt Berninger will release his upcoming sophomore solo album “Get Sunk” on May 30, 2025.
From the album, he released a new song “Breaking Into Acting” on April 18, 2025.
This time, he teamed up with American indie-rock band Hand Habits' Meg Duffy on the track.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Bonnet Of Pins” released last month.
Matt Berninger co-wrote the song with producer Sean O'Brien.
The accompanying music video was directed by Hopper Mills.
Matt Berninger said of the song, “The song is about being on stage and feeling like you’re acting. I write the script, but when I go to record or perform it, I turn into an actor. I love that, but it can get weird to turn on and off. It’s about forgetting you’re not that character. Meg Duffy of Hand Habits joined and turned it into a little duet. They made the song much more than a metaphor about me.”- The new album comprises 10 songs, featuring guest appearances from Hand Habits and Ronboy. It is his first album in five years since the 2020 album “Serpentine Prison”.
The album focuses on themes of changing identity and self-worth.
Matt Berninger said of the album, “Our hearts are like old wells filled with pennies and worms. I can’t resist going down to the bottom of mine to see what else is there. But sometimes you can get yourself stuck.” -
