Barry Can't Swim Premieres New Song “Kimpton” with O'Flynn on BBC Radio 1
London-based Scottish DJ Barry Can't Swim premiered a new song “Kimpton” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This time, he teamed up with London-based DJ O'Flynn on the track.
The song is the third single off of his upcoming sophomore album “Loner”, which is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
It was written by Ben NorrisDembélé Boakary, Dembélé Seydou, Joshua Mainnie, and SanouMoussa Kora. Produced by Joshua Mainnie and Ben Norris.
Barry Can't Swim said of the song, “Ben (O'Flynn) actually lives around the corner from me and before we made this I was struggling with a bit of writers block. Going round to his house to just jam and make music for the love of it with one of your good mates was such a perfect tonic, and after that the whole album came together really quickly. I've been a huge fan of him for years, I'm really proud to finally be able to share it.”- The new album comprises 12 songs, featuring collaborations with O'Flynn and Séamus. It is his first album in two years since the 2023 album “When Will We Land?”
Barry Can't Swim said of the album, “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year. I feel immensely privileged to get to make music for a living, and to be allowed the breathing space to just focus my attention fully on writing an album. It really is a dream. I can't wait for it to be out.” -
Barry Can't Swim told Jack Saunders about the song, “It's a track that I wrote with my good friend of O'Flynn, who also happens to be my neighbor, and it just came from us hanging out at each other's houses and making tunes for fun. This was actually the first tune from the new album that I wrote, and honestly. It was the first time in my life I've ever had a bit of writer's block. And it really... like just going round to my mate's house and writing music for the fun of it with no expectation. Was why it was the first thing. It kind of just got the ball rolling, and sort of reminded me that you don't have to overthink these things, like it's just make what you like making, and the rest will come.”
He said of the album, “Like a lot of the record is really just about, I guess, my own sort of journey over the past year of just trying to kind of reconnect with myself. And better understand myself, things have been amazing, but they've also been really hectic. And I think it's just took me a minute to kind of reconnect with myself, and actually just by being in the studio and doing what I love, and writing music is what's really kind of allowed me to do that.” - source : BBC Radio 1
