Arcade Fire Announces New Album “Pink Elephant”, Shares New Song “Year of the Snake”
Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire, consisting of Win Butler (vocals/guitar), Régine Chassagne (vocal/keyboards), Richard Reed Parry (guitar), Tim Kingsbury (bass) and Jeremy Gara (drums), has announced their upcoming seventh studio album “Pink Elephant” will be released on May 9, 2025.
It is their first album in three years since the 2022 album “WE”.
The album comprises 10 songs, produced by Win Butler, Régine Chassagne and Daniel Lanois. The band recorded the album at the band's Good News Recording Studio in New Orleans.
According to a press release, the term “pink elephant” refers to that paradoxical effect where the effort to suppress a thought leads to it being impossible to avoid.
When experienced in its entirety, the album invites the listener on a sonic odyssey - a quest for life - that exists within the perception of the individual, a meditation on both darkness and light, the beauty within. The layers of this condensed epic unfold to reveal new dimensions with each successive listen.- From the album, the band released the first single called “Year of the Snake” on April 8, 2025.
The track was written by Regine Chassagne and Win Butler. Produced by Win Butler, Régine Chassagne and Daniel Lanois.
The title of the song is named after 2025 being the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac. It represents a time for renewal, positive transformation and new beginnings as the band sheds its skin once again.
The song is all about how times are weird and bad, but feeling uncomfortable can be positive.
On the track, Win Butler played the drums for the first time with the band.
The accompanying music video was directed by David Wilson and Mark Prendergast.
The video follows Win Butler and Régine Chassagne road tripping from Mardi Gras in their adopted hometown to the rodeos of Win Butler's native Houston. -
