Rise Against Releases New Song “Prizefighter”
Back in January, American punk rock band Rise Against, consisting of Tim McIlrath (vocals/rhythm guitar), Joe Principe (bass), Brandon Barnes (drums) and Zach Blair (lead guitar), returned with a new song “Nod” for the first time in three years.
The band frontman Tim McIlrath said, “Nod is about the solace we find in community. It's about the comfort in knowing that we are not alone. This comfort can temper our anger and our frustration, at least temporarily.”
Following the comeback song, the band a new song “Prizefighter” on April 3, 2025.
The song illustrates the internal battle between making art, maintaining autonomy, and meeting the demands of the present day's never-ending, rapidly-shifting attention span.
It was written by Brandon Barnes, Jennifer Erin Decilveo, Joe Principe, Tim McIlrath, and Zach Blair. Produced by Catherine Marks.- Tim McIlrath said of the song, “'Prizefighter' is about a compulsion to create, that then creates an audience, and then your connection with that audience and your responsibilities to that audience, and how much an artist is obliged to that audience. It's trying to reconcile the shift from spectator to the public arena, and what you owe the people that are your fans versus what you owe your own mental health.”
