  • Josie Oliver Releases Debut EP “Listen to this when you buy a house”

  • British indie-pop singer-songwriter Josie Oliver released her debut EP “Listen to this when you buy a house” on March 28, 2025.

The EP comprises a 5-track, produced by Josie Oliver, Jay Flew, and Shute.
The EP's title comes from the name of a voice note in her phone. The collection is all about navigating love for the first time, especially during your late teens early 20’s, capturing an intense time - there’s so much change, growth, love, heartache.

Josie Oliver said of the EP, “The EP delves into the turbulence of young love. Written during my first serious relationship, it reflects the highs and lows of navigating love for the first time, growing together and recognising how fragile time is. It feels like a time capsule of the last few years for me and serves as a reminder that all of the beautiful and painful, impermanent moments are the ones that shape who we are and so I'll always be grateful for them, regardless of love's ending!”
  • She continued, “The title ‘Listen to This When You Buy a House’ came from the name of a voice note I have saved in my phone, it’s the one that you hear in ‘Do You Really Have to Go?’. There's an underlying ache throughout the ep, that these deeply meaningful moments can’t last forever. Nostalgia makes me feel sick! I get sad that moments are over before they’ve actually ended. I thought titling the ep based on a voice note where I was addressing my future self, encapsulated this.”

  • Josie Oliver explained about some tracks for the EP.

    “Wake up (I love you)”
“Me & Jay Flew wrote this song a year ago & I've loved it ever since. It's about the sweetness of falling in love mixed with the overwhelmingg anxiety of heartbreak.”

    “Standing at our grave”
“Had a special time writing this one, we tried a few different versions of this song but nothing was hitting the same as the first demo we made the day we wrote it so that’s mostly what you’re hearing. This song means a lot to me & I hope it can mean something for you too! Super lucky to have worked with some of the best on this one.”

    “Standstill”
“Standstill is about longing to stay in the present with someone before it ends and the bittersweet feeling knowing moments can’t last forever. I wrote it about that feeling of knowing you should let go but wanting so badly to just stop in time and savour it. Over time, the meaning of the song has evolved for me—originally, I saw it as a shy love song, but now the lyrics feel sadder. I think it’s cool that even my own songs can change in meaning, and I guess it’s up to the listener to interpret it in their own way.”

“I think that one was probably one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve ever written. I shut myself in my room for the whole night, wrote and recorded it, and I was feeling really down at the time. It was difficult to write because I felt pretty rubbish, but at the same time, it was one of those songs that just flowed out of me. The next day, I showed it to my five best friends, and all of them cried. That’s when I was like, Okay, I’ve written a good song.”
