Alison Krauss & Union Station Release New Album “Arcadia”
American bluegrass band Alison Krauss & Union Station, consisting of Alison Krauss (vocals/fiddle), Ron Block (guitar), Russell Moore (vocals/guitar), Barry Bales (bass) and Jerry Douglas (dobro), released their eighth studio album “Arcadia” on March 28, 2025 via Down The Road Records.
This marks their first album in 14 years since the 2011 album “Paper Airplane”. Also, it is the first release featuring new member Russell Moore, who replaced Dan Tyminski.
The album comprises 10 songs, produced by Alison Krauss & Union Station. Written by Jeremy Lister, Viktor Krauss, Maurice Ogden, Robert Lee Castleman, Dan Tyminski, Timothy Eriksen, Sarah Siskind, Alison Krauss, G.T. Burgess, Jonathan David McPherson, and Bob Lucas.
The album title is named after a tiny Louisiana town called Arcadia.
Alison Krauss said of the album, “The stories of the past are told in this music. It's that whole idea of 'in the good old days when times were bad. There's so much bravery and valor and loyalty and dreaming, of family and themes of human existence that were told in a certain way when our grandparents were alive. Someone asked me, 'How do you sing these tragic tunes?' I have to. It's a calling. I feel privileged to be a messenger of somebody else's story. And I want to hear what happened.”- Alison Krauss told Rolling Stone about recording process, “I love beautiful songs and telling the story. And everybody in the band has always had such a unique, individual sound to them. Everybody has the same mentality of “let's just present these songs in the way that we feel like they should be.” There's never been a lot of contriving with arrangements or forcing something because it seemed clever. We wanted it to always be a very natural production. That's always been the attitude for us.”
She continued, “In Union Station, when we do the tracks, they are smooth. That's an easy, beautiful process. It's magical in there with the headphones on. It's just such a natural thing. And maybe they'd feel differently, but I don't. I don't see it that way as any kind of labor, they play so beautifully. It's so selfless when I hear it go down that, unless I'm wrong, those days are like butter. Now me, that's another story.” -
Alison Krauss explained about some tracks for the album.
“Looks Like The End Of The Road”
“Usually, I find something that's a first song, and then things fall into place. That song was 'Looks Like The End Of The Road.' Jeremy Lister wrote it, and it just felt so alive - and as always, I could hear the guys already playing it.”
“Granite Mills”
“Jerry, Ron, Barry and I all met when Dan Tyminski left the band, and Jerry asked me, 'What do you think?' I said, 'Russell Moore,' and they all said, 'Absolutely!' I couldn't believe it when we went into the studio and his voice came through the speakers. He just stands there and sings with his hands in his pockets, and he kills it. The first song he did was 'Granite Mills' and about 10 minutes in, Ron was covering his mouth because he started giggling. Russell came in and inspired us all.”
