Ride's Steve Queralt Announces Debut Solo Album “Swallow”, Shares New Song “Lonely Town” featuring Emma Anderson
British rock band Ride's bassist Steve Queralt has announced his upcoming debut solo album “Swallow” will be released June 13, 2025.
It is his first project in the three years since the 2022 EP “Sun Moon Town”.
From the album, he released the first single called “Lonely Town” on March 26, 2025.
This time, he teamed up with British singer-songwriter Emma Anderson on the track.
The track was written by Steve Queralt and Emma Anderson.
Steve Queralt said of the song, “I'd been going through another Joy Division stage and so the rhythm and tempo were the starting point and, once they were in place, the bass part followed naturally. Emma follows the synth melody for the chorus, but it's the bridge part that does it for me. Just after we finished it, Emma came up with more vocal parts which were too good to miss out on, so back to the studio we went.”- Emma Anderson said, “I am now very excited to announce that another song by Steve and myself is launching into the world. It's called 'Lonely Town'. The music was written and played by Steve and I wrote and sang the lyrics and the lead and backing vocal melodies (I played no instruments).”
She added that the lyrics are about “revisiting a familiar place and having your memories jogged and remembering things how they were in reality and not how you thought you remembered them.” -
The album comprises 9 songs, featuring guest appearances from Emma Anderson and Verity Susman.
Steve Queralt has been making the album for five years. The majority of the album is instrumental.
Steve Queralt said of the album, “Swallow has turned out so much better than I had hoped, largely thanks to Emma and Verity's contributions which sew the tracks together and shape it into an album. I'd fallen out of love with it so many times I was thinking of calling it Loveless. But then, that wouldn't be the whole story.”
