  • Gabrielle Aplin Releases New EP “Northern Star”

  • British singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin released a new EP “Northern Star” on March 21, 2025.

This marks her first project in almost a year since the 2024 EP “Writers Block Pt 1”.
The collection captures the cycle of life and our connection to nature.
The EP comprises 4 songs, featuring a guest appearance from Irish folk duo Hudson Taylor's Alfie Hudson-Taylor, produced by Liz Horsman and Mike Spencer.
Also, one song “Go Be Free” of the EP is featured on the 2025 film “Last Breath” directed by Alex Parkinson, starring Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole, and Cliff Curtis.

Gabrielle Aplin said of the EP, “I was really thinking a lot about the circle of life and experiencing a lot of grief kind of found a lot comfort in writing how everything is connected and I love nature and it just made me think of how we kind of I mean we are nature. It is a collection of songs all about how we connect with nature, how we are nature and all the circles of life and time that exist within and alongside us.”
  • She continued, “This has been one of my favourite experiences making music I’ve ever had. Thank you Liz Horsman and Mike Spencer for creating the best atmosphere and environment for artists to be artists to make music that represents our values and inspirations.”

She added, “My song, 'Go Be Free'. I wrote it for this movie 'Last Breath'. It's an amazing true story, and I was so inspired by it, I just wrote a whole EP about it.”

  • Gabrielle Aplin explained track-by-track for the EP.

    “Go Be Free”
“I wanna tell you about my new song 'Go Be Free'. So I'm not saying to be annoying, and I genuinely am not. But it was written as part of a bigger project that I'm not allowed to say about yet. It doesn't matter, 'cause I can till tell you the creative process, I suppose the song that I had to write for project, you know, it's very close to nature the se and kind of coming back to whatever is meant for you or like be it your loved ones, yourself, your interests and kind of, you know, really knowing who you are. But for me, I was really thinking a lot about the circle of life and experiencing a lot of grief kind of found a lot comfort in writing how everything is connected and I love nature and it just made me think of how we kind of I mean we are nature. But how we're connected in those ways too so, you know water could be in a cloud and then it can rain and then it can run down a mountain it will eventually make it's way back to the sea. And that water might water some soil somewhere and grow a seed I try and remember that whenever I start feeling sad about especially grief or just anything is that like everything's a circle, everything just keeps going, I believe anyway. We'll always come back to wherever we're meant to be essentially. And that's what the songs about you know what is meant for you will find you or other way round.”

    “Home To Me”
“I'm so excited to follow on from Go Be Free with this song. It's almost like part 2 in some ways. I'm really loving writing about nature at the moment it seems haha! If there is a field, I will frolic! So we made a visualiser for Home To Me. My brief was midsummer murders meets the hills are alive with the sound of music. What is your favourite lyric? Mine is 'The salt meets the sand, the soil meets the seed, and if you like the flower then you can't call it a weed'”

    “Little Light” featuring Alfie Hudson-Taylor
“This one is Little Light and it features the one and only best special person ever Alfie Hudson-Taylor.”

    “Magnolia”
“It’s a quiet song about making sure we appreciate the fleeting small bits that are magical. We filmed the visualiser in one of my favourite places ever.”
