  • Self Esteem Premieres New Song “If Not Now, It's Soon” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Rebecca Lucy Taylor, aka Self Esteem premiered a new song “If Not Now, It's Soon” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is the third single off of her upcoming third studio album “A Complicated Woman”, which is set to be released on April 25, 2025 via Polydor Records.
The track was partly inspired by her years before she became famous, a time of hypersexuality, booze and self-destruction that precipitated the creation of Self Esteem.
It was written by Rebecca Lucy Taylor, and Johan Hugo, who also produced the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by Piers Dennis, who also created the previous videos for “Focus Is Power” and “69”.

Self Esteem said of the song, “Personally, you have to wait and one day you'll get somewhere less painful. But the world will hopefully get somewhere less painful too. It's about hope, perseverance and patience!”
  • Self Esteem told Jack Saunders about the song, “I sampled a personal hero of mine, Julie Hesmondhalgh on this. It's getting misspelled on. People say, 'If not now, then soon', 'If not now, when'. But it's about waiting and things getting better. So personally, I think like, loads of things make a lot more sense to me now than they used to. And you can apply that theory. Every time you feeling very like things are difficult, and you always figure it out, you always get there. And then I'm also sort of trying to apply it to the world in this song and go. Because things are quite difficult. And then things feel like they don't get any better. But there's got to be something worth waiting for and being patient and be persistent.”

  • The new album comprises 12 songs, featuring collaborations with Sue Tompkins, Moonchild Sanelly, and Nadine Shah.
It is her first album in four years since the 2021 album “Prioritise Pleasure”.
The collection focuses on themes of taking back control of your own life and exposing the social inequities imposed upon women.
