  • Bitter:Sweet Releases New Song “Rise”

  • Los Angeles-based electronic pop band Bitter:Sweet released a new song “Rise” on March 21, 2025.

The song is the second single off of their upcoming album “Baby Is Back”, which is set to be released on April 25, 2025.
The band lead singer Shana Halligan wrote the song in the final days before her father's passing away. It is a personal and raw track.
Her father was American jazz rock band Blood, Sweat and Tears' founder Dick Halligan.
The track was written by Joseph David Verschaetse and Shana Halligan. Produced by Verskotzi.

Shana Halligan said of the song, “I wrote it for my father shortly before he passed away. We were very close, but toward the end, he withdrew and hid his struggles from me, which was heartbreaking. He lost his identity without music and distanced himself at a time when I couldn't reach him. I was travelling to Italy to see him but didn't arrive in time, leaving our goodbye unfinished. I sent him this song as a way to connect”.
  • She added, “I'm usually more guarded in my writing; this experience was entirely new for me. A cool fact about this track is that my friend Serj Tankian from System Of A Down did the string arrangements for it, fresh off his Game of Thrones composition. He and my father also shared a special bond, so it felt just right.”

  • The new album comprises 13 songs, produced by Verskotzi. It is their first album in 18 years since the 2007 album “Drama”.
Shana Halligan said of the album, “I wanted to make a big band, swinging banger with Bitter:Sweet's roots while propelling the new music into this exciting new era. The band's music has always been about freedom, vibrancy and limitless creativity, and the new album takes that even further.”
