  • Ché Aimee Dorval Returns with New Song “Joyride”

  • Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Ché Aimee Dorval returned with a new song “Joyride” on March 20, 2025.

The song is her first music in two years since the 2023 album “The Crowned”.
She crafted to get lost in the neon-lit midnight lounge vibe, where dreamy alt-pop meets late-night electronica in a cinematic synth soundscape.
The track was written and produced by Ché Aimee Dorval.

Ché Aimee Dorval said of the song, “'Joyride' was one of those songs I'd been writing on and off for years, and it took on all sorts of shapes and meanings over time. It wasn't until recently when everything in the world felt like it was ramping up and the Canada/U.S. relationship started to look very toxic that I finally felt inspired to finish it. I'm someone who apologizes for pretty much everything. It's almost a knee-jerk reaction just for existing on this planet. Maybe it's because I'm Canadian or maybe it's because I'm a woman, but it's something I've tried to curb over the years. For me, this song is about saying 'no' to a broken situation and not apologizing for setting boundaries or speaking up when it needs to be said.”
  • The accompanying music video was directed by Joi Of Dance, featuring dancer Joi Of Dance to help deliver the empowering message of the song.

Ché Aimee Dorval said of the video, “Joi's dancing is pure power and soul-it embodies everything I've always tried to convey through my music. 'Joyride' is about reclaiming your power, embracing who you are, and honouring your needs without compromise. Collaborating with her on this felt like a perfect fit. Joi created this routine for a track from my last album, The Crowned, but because of constraints, we never got around to making the video. I've always felt a bit disappointed that such a powerful piece of art went unused. When it came time to plan the 'Joyride' video, it was clear that her performance was meant to bring the song's story to life.”

  • She shared on social media, “I really tried to rely on myself with this one. Where I usually would reach out for help, I decided to trust my own gut instinct-and that's what makes this track so different from anything I've released before. I'm not a guitar player... I mean, I play guitar and I'm not awful, but it's not exactly my natural most confident state of being. For this song, I immersed myself in synths and sound design, which really let me explore my imagination without being held back by my technical limits. Removing that barrier allowed the creative flow to take over, and I'm genuinely happy with how it turned out. It's not perfect, but it means something and helped me grow as a songwriter and producer.”

She added, “There's much more to come. I'm writing for me now because you only live once, and we might as well do what makes us happy. Go give it a listen and let me know whatcha think. And as always, so much love to you guys-thanks for being a part of this journey.”
