Joy Crookes Premieres New Song “I Know You'd Kill” on BBC Radio 1
London-based singer-songwriter Joy Crookes premiered a new song “I Know You'd Kill” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single of 2025, following “Pass the Salt” featuring Vince Staples and “Mathematics” featuring Kano.
It was written by Barney Lister, Joel Pott, and Joy Crookes. Produced by Joy Crookes and Blue May.
The song is about her manager Charlotte Owen and her best friend.
Joy Crookes said of the song, “I tripped balls at Glastonbury and believed someone in our team was bad news. I panicked so much I almost cried. In an effort to reassure me, Charlie turns to me and goes ‘You know Nay and I would kill for you.’ My lack of sobriety, her presence and my trust in her made her look so literally shiny. I couldn’t even look at her because she was glittering.”- Joy Crookes told Jack Saunders about the song, “It is about my manager and my best friend. And I was in a very, very complicated situation where I suddenly decided I didn't trust someone, and I was really panicking about it. Having an existential, if you will. And Charlie (Charlotte Owen) was like, Look, you know what, we would, we would kill for you. And I was like, that suddenly makes me feel so much better. So the existential was gone, and then this song was born.”

She continued, “We were at fish factory for this one. And we had incredible musicians just kind of lined up and playing the tune. And I don't know even the drums are like super. And we weren't really thinking about what genres we were going to play around with. We were very much in the doing and in the flow state of doing, which is, I think, one of the best places to be when creating anything. And the song just kind of fell together.” - source : BBC Radio 1
