JP Saxe Announces Two Part Album Part One “Articulate Excuses”, Shares New Song “SMARTPHONE MAKE ME DUMB”
Canadian singer-songwriter JP Saxe has announced part one of two-part album, “Articulate Excuses” will be released on April 18, 2025 via Arista Records.
The two-part album traces his journey through a series of personal revelations. “Articulate Excuses” comprises 8 songs.
JP Saxe describes two-part album as “90% for creative reasons and 10% because of the pragmatism of navigating people's increasingly nonexistent attention spans. I love my music so much and even l have trouble listening to 14 in a row. So how could I expect someone else to? Each part has a unique sonic and thematic identity that gives one message when listened to on its own or as a complete project.”
From the album, he released a new song “SMARTPHONE MAKE ME DUMB” on March 14, 2025.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “SAFE” released back in January.
It was written by James Ho, JP Saxe, Ryan Marrone, and Savanah Santos. Produced by JP Saxe and Malay.- JP Saxe said of the song, “I hate how much time I spend 'off'. Prob my least favorite part of myself is how impulsively I distract myself from myself. It's just so fucking contrary to how desperate I am to feel alive. This song, like all of my songs, is not an answer or a solution or a suggestion. It's just a replication of a feeling. The feeling of hiding from myself by drowning my brain in social media and alcohol and sex and plans anything other than the terrifying company of my own thoughts.”
He continued, “Consciousness is exhausting. Staring at hot strangers and whales and hydraulic smushed crayons for 5 seconds at a time on your phone is way easier. So is poison-induced vulnerability (alcohol) and disconnection masked as connection (flippant sex). Sure, maybe our brains are slowly rotting, but at least we're not burdened by the stress of aliveness.” -
He shared on social media, “I like tricking myself into dealing with shit as a person by putting it in my songs, like this one about how getting outta bed is hard and my phone is tryna kill me. I do really love this song cuz it's silly and sincere and now my bullshit has a pretty melody so thats good progress.” - source : Apple Music
