  • Mura Masa Premieres New Song “JUMP” on BBC Radio 1

  • British electronic music producer Mura Masa premiered a new song “JUMP” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is accompanied by a music video directed by The Reids, who filmed it in New York.
The video features Showdem Movement Foundation.
It was written by Alexander Crossan, Dale Husbands, and Oscar Michelson Joseph Lovell. Produced by Mura Masa.
The track will appear on his upcoming album “Curve 2”.

Mura Masa said of the song, “This is a special track for me, with an even more special video by The Reids featuring the wonderful and inspiring Showdem Movement. They're a non-profit organisation operating out of New York City , who aim to uplift the spirits and bodies of those around them through the art of Double Dutch. I came across their videos and instantly wanted to document and capture the amazing work they do and the ethos of community and joy they create through their work. You can donate to their group via their GoFundMe, and I would encourage you to as the work they do feels to me vital and important. Thank you again to all the Showdem Movement jumpers, The Reids and to you for listening more music and fun this year.”
  • Mura Masa told Jack Saunders about the song, “I feel like there's dance music, and then there's, like, party music. And this is party music. I want people turning the speakers up. I want people to feel the joy. This is a joyful record as well.”

He continued, “This was a really quick one for me. I came across this sample generously granted to me by a group called Zulu Lightning. It's like, I found it on a Soca compilation album. And I was just like, this has such life in it. And it's so blissfully ignorant. It's just like, just jump. Just jump. If you feel like jumping, just jump. That was really speaking to where my head was at.”

He added, “I meant singular, but this is a part of an ongoing thing I'm doing. My last album was called Curve 1, which implies a Curve 2.”

  • He said of the video, “Showdem is a non-profit organisation based in Mew York City. Their mission is to spread joy through movement, with a focus on community and lifting the sprits and bodies of those around them. They meet up regularly to jump Double Dutch, and invite those around them in the city to participate in their session and experience the movement. We met up with them to document and share in their practice.”
