Ólafur Arnalds & Loreen Announce New Collaborative Project “SAGES”, Share Two New Songs “In The Sound Of Breathing” & “Opening”
Icelandic producer Ólafur Arnalds joined forces with Swedish singer-songwriter Loreen to release two new songs “In The Sound Of Breathing” and “Opening” as their new collaborative project SAGES on March 7, 2025.
The songs will appear on their upcoming collaborative EP “SAGES”, which is set to be released on March 21. 2025.
“In The Sound Of Breathing” was recorded at Ólafur Arnalds' Reykjavik studio in just half a day.
It was written by Klara Elias, Loreen, Sandrayati, and Ólafur Arnalds.
“Opening” was written by Ólafur Arnalds years ago as an instrumental track and was completed by both artists.
Both songs were produced by Ólafur Arnalds.
The accompanying short film was directed by Thora Hilmarsdóttir, who filmed it in Iceland.
The film takes its narrative from the surreal story of the famous Dancing Plague of Strasbourg in the early 16th Century.- Loreen said of the song, “I'm so excited to finally share 'In The Sound of Breathing' / 'Opening' with everyone-this project has been such a beautiful, transformative journey. Working with Ólafur has felt like discovering a musical kindred spirit; from the very first session, everything flowed so naturally, like we were completing each other's sentences through sound. Every detail, every frequency, every moment in this music has been crafted with deep intention. I hope that when people listen, they allow themselves to fully immerse in it, to feel the energy in the soundscapes, and to take whatever they need from it.”
She added, “After working on this, I realised-this is what creating should feel like. No walls, no compromises, just pure expression.” -
Ólafur Arnalds said, “I'm so proud of these songs that Loreen and I poured our hearts and souls into. We started with a completely blank slate, as strangers, and without even having to talk about the direction we wanted to go, off we went. We could just feel it. The songs we made started forming a journey ending in a wild creative catharsis, the kind of freedom that feels like rebellion.”
The new EP “SAGES” comprises 3 songs, produced by Ólafur Arnalds.
The pair said, “We've spent 2 years working on SAGES, starting as strangers with a completely blank slate, slowly forming a journey that ended in a wild creative catharsis, the kind of freedom that feels like rebellion.”
