Bria Salmena Releases New Song “Hammer”
Los Angeles-based Canadian singer-songwriter Bria Salmena, who is known Canadian post-punk band FRIGS' vocalist, released a new song “Hammer” along with a music video on February 25, 2025.
The song is the second single off of her upcoming debut solo album “Big Dog”, following “Stretch the Struggle” released last month.
The album is set to be released on March 28, 2025 via Sub Pop Records and Royal Mountain Records.
Originally written as a love song, the track has since taken on new weight, evolving into an empowering affirmation of resilience that is central to her forthcoming debut solo album.
It was written by Bria Salmena, and Duncan Hay Jennings. Produced by Bria Salmena, Duncan Hay Jennings, Meg Remy, and Graham Walsh.
The accompanying video was directed by Matthew Tammaro and Rebecca Cianfrini.
On the track, performed by Bria Salmena and Duncan Hay Jennings. Additional instrumentation from Evan Cartwright on drums, Lucas Savatti on bass, Jaime McCuaig on vocals and Graham Walsh on modular synth.- Bria Salmena said of the song,“When I first wrote Hammer I thought I was writing a love song to someone else. And just like everything else in the world, that love changed. I've been struggling lately to find some light, to find strength in this current global dumpster fire. My personal troubles aside, I feel as though this song resonates in a different way to me now. Whether I realized it or not, 'you are a hammer' and 'you are a big dog' became words of encouragement for myself, and in a way, became the mantra for this whole album. So, lead with kindness or beware the Big Dog.”
