Self Esteem Performs “Focus Is Power” on The Graham Norton Show
British singer-songwriter Rebecca Lucy Taylor, aka Self Esteem appeared on The Graham Norton Show to perform “Focus Is Power”.
This marks her second time Self Esteem has performed on The Graham Norton Show since her 2022 performance of “Wizardry”.
“Focus Is Power”, featuring a choir, was released last month as the first single from her upcoming third studio album “A Complicated Woman”.
The song is inspired by a phrase she wrote on a sticker while working in her parent’s shed during the pandemic.
It was written by Johan Hugo, Pale Jay, and Rebecca Lucy Taylor. Produced by Johan Hugo and Lorna Blackwood.
Self Esteem said of the song, “Wrote it a long time ago. I think in the pandemic. I wrote it paper with my mum and dad's shed and stuck it up. It's still there. But I felt very hopeless.”- She continued, “I’ve struggled a lot with feelings of giving up. The world is getting harder unless you’re *that* type of specific person. I feel more and more dejected as logic repeatedly shows me that this is a losing game. So where does that leave us? ‘Focus is Power’ is about just that. If you have focus, you have power. The power to change, learn, educate, fight. Even if it’s just in the tiniest way. Find the small pockets of defiance, focus and keep existing.”

The new album is set to be released on April 25, 2025 and comprises 12 songs, featuring guest appearances from Sue Tompkins, Moonchild Sanelly and Nadine Shah.
It is her first album in four years since the 2021 album “Prioritise Pleasure”. - source : BBC One
