  • Sasha Dawe Releases New Song “Survive”

  • Namibian-born indie-folk singer-songwriter Sasha Dawe released a new song “Survive” along with a music video on February 21, 2025.

The song is the second single off of his upcoming EP “Here I Am”, following “Who I Am” released last month.
The EP is set to be released on March 21, 2025. On the EP, he leans into his African heritage, exploring the roots of his upbringing and allowing a deepening of the relationship with his home.
The track is a somber-sounding offering, but maintains optimism in divinity.
It was written by Joe Van Der Linden, Kajetan Gmierek, Sasha David Dawe, and Stefan Uys. Produced by Sasha Dawe, Kajetan Gmierek, Stefan Uys, and Joshua Morris.

Sasha Dawe said of the song, “This song is about finding one's strength through hardship. Retaining faith in fate through darkness and uncertainty. An acknowledgment of the commonality of human hardship and suffering.”
  • The accompanying video was directed by Maciej Przygoda, who filmed it in Namibia.
The video offers insight into the intersection of traditional African culture and classical Western education.
It is an emotional tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and the boundless potential that exists even in the most challenging circumstances.

Sasha Dawe said of the video, “Shot in the breathtakingly remote landscapes of northern Namibia, near Ruacana, this music video is a poignant exploration of strength through adversity. Rooted in themes of resilience, faith, and the shared struggles of humanity, it captures the enduring spirit of those who navigate darkness with unwavering hope.”

  • He continued, “Filmed at Nakayale Private Academy, the video highlights the profound intersection of traditional African culture and classical Western education. Through intimate and powerful visuals, it showcases the children's journey-learning to thrive in a modern world while honoring their heritage. Their daily lives become a testament to the power of knowledge, perseverance, and faith in something greater.”

He added, “The imagery of the academy-where education and tradition intertwine-serves as a metaphor for the song's deeper message: that hardship is universal, but so is the strength to overcome it. Amidst life's struggles, optimism and faith remain, lighting the path forward.”
