Pip Lewis Releases New Song “Dead Ringer”
San Diego-based British singer-songwriter Pip Lewis released a new song “Dead Ringer” on February 21, 2025.
The song is the second sibgle off of her upcoming album “Growing Pains”, which is set to be released on June 13, 2025 via Enci Records.
Track blends an 80s-inspired sound with themes of identity and performance, questioning the blurred line between showmanship and suffering.
It was written by Pip Lewis and produced by Mylo Bard. The accompanying music video was directed by Jessica Borchardt, who also directed her previous video for “Safe & Sound”.
Pip Lewis said of the song, “'Dead Ringer' was one of the earliest songs written for my upcoming album 'Growing Pains' and it has a strong 80's influence. I first got the idea for the track when I was listening to the iconic drum intro on 'Blue Monday' by New Order. I sought out some samples of the iconic Linn drum machine (used on tracks such as 'Purple Rain' and '1999' by Prince and 'Radio Ga Ga' by Queen) and got to work producing the demo of what became 'Dead Ringer'. I chased the 80's influence all the way through production, even alluding to the band Crowded House in the lyrics: In a crowded room, a Crowded House / No one listen when I shout / Nor when I whisper / They only listen when I'm a singer.”- She continued, “The song is an offbeat commentary on the line between the person and the performer. Who is Pip Lewis as a person? Who is she as a performer? Is the struggle of the person part of the allure of a performer? I had grown up watching Joy Division's lan Curtis performances with my father. Curtis would often have epileptic seizures on stage and it struck me then that it seemed like sometimes showmanship and suffering were synonymous. Who's to say what is dancing and what is seizing?”

She added, “These lyrics really sum up the essence of the song: I'm banging on the lid of the coffin / They won't listen to me but they're watching.”
She shared on social media, “It has 80s roots combined with an offbeat commentary on the disconnect between being a performer and being human.” - source : Apple Music
