Wallows Premieres New Song “Coffin Change” on BBC Radio 1
American alt-rock band Wallows, consisting of Dylan Minnette (vocals/rhythm guitar), Braeden Lemasters (vocals/lead guitar) and Cole Preston (drums), premiered a new song “Coffin Change” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song will appear on their upcoming 7-track EP “More”, which is set to be released on March 28, 2025.
The EP is the follow-up to their third studio album “Model”, which was released last May.
The track was written by Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston, Dylan Minnette, and Jake Sinclair. Produced by John Congleton.
The band told Jack Saunders about the song, “I think it's when we were writing this, the guitar part, the music kind of had this pop, catchy and kind of upbeat feel to it. And I thought, adding a contrast at the lyrics being more about death and life and existentialism, could be interesting. So maybe that's what it is.”- Braeden Lemasters continued, “I remember back when we were writing the song, I was just reading about a lot of history, it started out with like, kind of economic systems in life and just past things. And I was like, wow, that's interesting. So me and Cole were writing the guitar and started writing the melody, and we're like, what words can we sing under this? Because didn't really know. And I was like, well, it could be interesting to write about that. And then that kind of turned into life and death, and what does it all mean? And the lyrics kind of came first, and then coffin change, is the title Dylan recommended because it kind of plays on the idea of pocket change. Coffin Change, pocket change. And I think it also has a lot of room for interpretation, I think.”

Dylan Minnette added, “It's a really fun part to play. All the guitars are tuned down an entire step, so it's kind of like extra jangly sounding. I like that this song is sort of not a wallows love song. Like, I feel like nine times out of 10 will do a song that's about love or relationship and things like that. And so this kind of is like a different direction in a cool way, I'd say.” - source : BBC Radio 1
