  • Maria Somerville Announces New Album “Luster”, Premieres New Song “Garden” on BBC Radio 6

  • Irish singer-songwriter Maria Somerville has announced her upcoming sophomore album “Luster” will be released on April 25, 2025 via 4AD.

The album is her first LP in six years since the 20219 debut album “All My People” and comprises 12 songs.
Also, it is the first release under her new label 4AD.
From the album, she premiered a new song “Garden” on BBC Radio 6 Music New Music Fix with Nathan Shepherd & Emily Pilbeam.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Projections”.
It was written by Maria Somerville, and produced by Diego Herrera and Henry Earnest.
The accompanying music video was directed by Anna Heisterkamp.

Maria Somerville told Nathan Shepherd and Emily Pilbeam about the song, “It's the second single from my album Luster, which comes out on 4AD on April 25. I wrote this song in late spring at home in Cornamona, which inspired the lyrics, I suppose. And I'm forever indebted to my friends Diego Herrera and Henry and Finn for working on this one with me. And there's a video coming out for it that I made with Anna Heisterkamp in much love places around there.”
  • Maria Somerville said of the song, “I began this song with guitar textures and synths, starting an initial idea with the voice and allowing space to follow that idea. Collaborating with Diego Herrera remote was so fun, and there was a lot of intuition and trust in that collaboration. I enjoyed this process; it was new for me, and the song came together quickly. I recorded my friend Henry Earnest playing more guitar layers later on through a stereo amp setup, and Finn Carraher Mcdonald and Henry helped arrange the music. It was late spring/early summer when I wrote the song, which inspired the warmer water line. A slow-moving time.”

She said of the video, “We filmed it at home in Connemara, and I think it perfectly captures the essence of the place. The late-night drives, dusky and still evenings. Anna's mind works in such an inspiring way, it was a very fun process.”
