Annika Kilkenny Releases New EP “Me In The Mud”
Irish singer-songwriter Annika Kilkenn released her sophomore EP “Me In The Mud” on February 14, 2025.
The 5-track EP documents a turbulent time in young adulthood and is about adapting to change and rolling with it.
On the EP, she worked with producer Ant Whiting and co-wrote with Emily Phillips.
Annika Kilkenny said of the EP, “Spent the past year flying over and back to London writing and recording this project, making very good friends with the aerlingus check-in desk girlies in the process. I appreciate all the hands that worked on this EP so hugely and feeling very excited for what's to come. I hope you love it as much as I loved making it.”
She added, “you should allow your experiences to mould you into a better version of yourself, allow yourself to take guidance from people you trust but disregard other comments or critiques sent your way from people you wouldn't go to for advice.”- Annika Kilkenny told CLASH about the EP, “I think this EP has a really different sound to the first. The songs on this project are all relatively newer too which makes me feel a little more connected to this one because the songs are a bit more relevant to my life at the moment. But with that comes nerves too, because I feel like I'm opening myself up that bit more because it is so present and current with the stage I am in my life.”

Annika Kilkenny explained about some tracks for the EP.
“Out In The Garden”
“Out In The Garden plays on the idea of planting oneself, like one would a flower, in hopes that they will grow differently. It's a song about clean slates and wanting to start again but then realising that might not be necessary as our mistakes and our past shape who we are, and it's best to not forget those things when growing into new versions of ourselves. It's about accepting the past and using it as a tool to shape us into the people we want to be.
This was so fun to make, that motif you hear on the glockenspiel at the beginning was initially just meant to be a filler motif in the chorus but then Ant Whiting suggested using it on the intro too. And it was sickkk. You can nearly see flowers popping up from underneath the soil with each tile ping.”
“Tango”
"It was really fun to string together. I remember being in my room finding all these James-Bond-type chords and thinking about how I could something quite moody with them. The idiom 'the ball is in your court' drove the lyrical concept for this song with how the verses embody a back-and-forth, my-move-your-move motif. Only later did this inspire the title of the track to be dubbed the name of the fiery latin dance."
“Boots For Hiking” via CLASH
“'Boots For Hiking' reflects on the feeling of continuously needing to be one step ahead of where you currently stand. It's for people who feel older than they are, for whatever reason, and is a reminder for all to exist presently.”
“It's Shaped You”
“This song is a nod to change by acknowledging that change can be scary and uncomfortable, we also acknowledge that change is necessary for internal growth. You should allow your experiences to mould you into a better version of yourself, allow yourself to take guidance from people you trust but disregard other comments or critiques sent your way from people you wouldn't go to for advice.”
