Karin Ann Teams Up with Duncan Laurence for New Song “choking on my words”
Slovakian alt-pop singer-songwriter Karin Ann joined forces with Dutch singer-songwriter Duncan Laurence to release a new song “choking on my words” on February 14, 2025.
This marks the first collaboration between Karin Ann and Duncan Laurence.
The song explores themes of loss, regret, and self-reflection, weaving haunting lyrics with Karin Ann's signature vulnerability and raw power.
Originally, Karin Ann wrote the song for her 2024 album “through the telescope”. The pair recorded the track in Los Angeles.
The track was written by Benjamin Lazar Davis, Duncan Laurence, Holden Jaffe, Jordan Garfield, Karin Ann, and Will Graefe Luke Moellman. Produced by Benjamin Lazar Davis, Luke Moellman, Will Graefe, and Randy Jackson.
Karin Ann said of the song, “I wrote this song about the idea of having a conversation with the dark parts of yourself, maybe the parts of yourself that you don’t want to face but need to in order to process things and move on...collaborating with Duncan felt so natural; his approach and perspective brought a new layer to the track that I couldn’t have imagined on my own. I’m so proud of what we created.”- Duncan Laurence said, “I've been a fan of Karin for a while, so when she sent me the demo of Choking On My Words and asked if I wanted to write a verse and feature on it, I didn't even have to think twice. There's something about this song-the way it moves, the rawness of the cello, the way her voice feels like it's pulling you into a cinematic dream and the most beautiful storm at the same time. I'm beyond honored to be a part of it. Can't wait for you all to hear this one. Thank you, Karin.”

Karin Ann added, “I've been on such a journey with this song. I originally wrote this song in may of 2023 for my album 'through the telescope' but it didn't feel completely right, so I decided not to put it on the album and continue working on it until it felt right. When I asked Duncan Laurence to hop on it and when we had our session together, that's when I knew it was finally where it needed to be. Duncan Laurence brought to it exactly what it was missing and i'm so honored we got to work on this together.” - source : Apple Music
