Hannah Rose Platt Announces New Album “Fragile Creatures”, Premieres New Song “Curious Mixtures” on BBC Music Introducing
Bristol-based singer-songwriter Hannah Rose Platt is back. She has announced her upcoming studio album “Fragile Creatures” will be released on April 25, 2025 via Xtra Mile Recordings.
The album is her first record two years since the 2023 album “Deathbed Confessions”.
From the album, she premiered the first single called “Curious Mixtures” on BBC Music Introducing with Dave Monks.
The song is inspired by British-Australian writer Emilia Hart's book “Weyward”.
It was written by Hannah Rose Platt and produced by Ed Harcourt.
Hannah Rose Platt said of the song, “'Curious Mixtures' documents a night in the life of a 15th century midwife providing help to women, whatever their needs in secret, under the cover of the darkness. hugely inspired by the character of Altha in Emilia Hart magnificent 'Weyward'!”- The new album comprises 11 songs, produced by Ed Harcourt.
Anatomising the complex relationship between women and medicine throughout history, the album explores how centuries-old myths and misconceptions in the pursuit of science have impacted female health, while creating countless injustices and inequalities.
Hannah Rose Platt said of the album, “This record is both an offering and a tribute to female pioneers in medicine; and an endeavour to honour, and give voice to, the unsung heroines in the history of our health. What struck me most during the research and creation of this album was the deeply ingrained, sinister nature of myth and misconception surrounding women’s health, and the harmful, cyclical dismissal of experiences; decade after decade, century after century, often reinforced by outdated and dangerous practices. My hope is that listeners will not only be intrigued by these stories but also inspired to dig deeper and empowered to challenge the systems that have long ignored or misrepresented women’s voices, as this dismissal remains so prevalent today.” -
She continued, “This powerful, thought-provoking, and at times enraging book Unwell Women by Elinor Cleghorn has been an incredible source of inspiration for me. Her deep dive into the history, misconceptions, and myths surrounding women’s health ignited a passion in me to explore these themes further, leading me to reflect on my own experiences in this area. I’ve even written an entire album about it.”
Producer Ed Harcourt said, “Once again, it has been a dream working with Hannah Rose Platt on our third project together; most importantly because of her deep understanding of the importance of new concepts & her fantastic storytelling - hilarious, heart breaking & with dark twists & turns. Each song is a novella in itself, drawing on the bizarre & shameful past of women’s treatment within medicine, society & culture. It’s an honour to be a part of their stories & at least give them a new voice. We pushed the boat out on this one & I’m ridiculously proud of Fragile Creatures. Hail Hannah & all who sailed before her!”
