Zanski Releases New Song “Canines”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Zanski released his first single of 2025 called “Canines” on February 7, 2025.
The song is an exploration of memory and self-doubt. With its melancholic mood and driving indie energy, the track captures the feeling of being caught between moments, reminiscing on the past but unsure whether those memories are truly accurate.
The track was written and produced by Thomas Probizanski.
Zanski said of the song, “'Canines' is about snapshots of memories-the way things become jumbled when you think back on them too much. There's a certain hesitation in remembering; it’s like wondering if you’re recalling something correctly, or if it’s just a version of events you’ve convinced yourself of.”- He continued, “It was sometime last summer where I’d begun thinking of the phrase ‘temporary fossil’, stuck in my head as a sort of meaningless aphorism that flickered through my mind like images on a zoetrope. I remember sitting on the floor in our shared Los Angeles rental in-between sessions, where i’d begun humming the bones of the chorus into my voice memos, still not having any idea of what I was singing about beyond the phonetic sounds that rolled off the tongue, but beginning to catalog a feeling, of placelessness or of a benign claustrophobia. I remember eventually having an image continuously rear its head, the barring of teeth, the action hitherto unrealized, as a nihilistic and anxious avoidance towards all the things that help you grow. The song came together a few weeks later.”
