Lucy Dacus Premieres New Song “Best Guess” on BBC Radio 1
American singer-songwriter and Grammy winning band boygenius member Lucy Dacus premiered a new song “Best Guess” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single off of her upcoming fourth studio album “Forever Is A Feeling”, which is set to be released on March 28, 2025.
The song is accompanied by the Lucy Dacus-directed music video, reimagine a '90s Calvin Klein ad.
Last month, Lucy Dacus recruited on social media for people who are smooth and suave enough to pretend to be “hot mascs”, to appear in the music video.
The video features MUNA's Naomi Mcpherson, Cara Delevigne, Towa Bird, E.R. Fightmaster, and others recruited through the casting call.
The track was writtenand produced by Lucy Dacus, with production Bartees Strange and Andrew Lappin.
Lucy Dacus told Jack Saunders about the song, “I would say that the point of love isn't longevity. It's about experiencing it as it's happening, and being respectful and just loving the person who they are and not how they complete you or not.”- She continued, “I feel there is no such thing as the one, in my opinion, from a very privileged place of feeling like I've had many ones, like I've had a lot of true loves in my life, and they've all been really perfect for what they are, and then moving on was also the right decision. But I wanted to write this love song that's very happy and is uncertain, because that's like the reality. People change, and ideally, when you really love someone, you can accept that they will change, and ideally you would change together, and stick together and have a deepening relationship. But it's not always like that. And that doesn't mean that it's not worth doing.”
She added, “In the first verse, it's like, I love your body. I love your mind. They will change. So will mine. And it's just basically being like, you're perfect, and you're going to change. So and even just implying like all of our bodies, a few people are so scared of aging. It's so crazy. And I think part of love is like realizing, like my love is not contingent upon you being hot.” -
The new album comprises 13 songs. Lucy Dacus wrote and recorded the album during boygenius' tour.
Lucy Dacus said of the album, “I wrote and recorded a lot of this during boygenius, and it was my little personal secret. Like, a lot of the recordings were breaks between tours. We ended a US tour, and I just, like, stayed in Nashville and recorded a bit. So, I think that slow crossfade of, like, working with them, working on my own things. - source : BBC Radio 1
