Ax and the Hatchetmen Releases New Song “Stay // Honestly”
Chicago-based indie rock band Ax and the Hatchetmen, consisting of Axel Ellis (vocals/guitar), Sal Defilippis (guitar), Hunter Olshefke (bass), Nick Deputy (drums), Phil Pistone (trumpet) and Quinn Dolan (saxophone), released a barand new song “Stay // Honestly” on January 31, 2025 via Arista Records.
The song is the first single of 2025, following “Mele Kalikimaka” released last November.
It was written by Axel Ellis and produced by Jake Sinclair.
The accompanying music video was directed by Isaiah Pate, featuring behind the scenes footage from the tour.
“‘Stay // Honestly’ is a song about the desperation of heartbreak and all the side effects that come with it,” The band frontman Axel Ellis said of the song. “It’s the loneliness of wishing something beautiful could have carried on. The anger while knowing there’s nobody to blame but yourself. The longing for a happy ending paired with the wondering whether they were ever right for you in the first place, or if it just beat out feeling lonely.”- He continued, “The insecurity, doubting oneself for ever fully opening up to another in fear of being truly seen. There’s moments where a glimmer of optimism finds its way in, only to realize it was just blind hope. It’s wondering what to do when a piece of you goes missing and you have to find your footing all over again. It’s about how it feels to lose your best friend.”
