The Kooks Announces New Album “Never/Know”, Shares New Song “Never Know”
British indie rock band The Kooks, consisting of Luke Pritchard (vocals/guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar) and Alexis Nunez (drums), has announced their upcoming seventh studio album “Never/Know” will be released on May 9, 2025 via Virgin Music Group.
This marks their first album in three years since the 2022 album “10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark”.
The comprises a 11-track, including a cover of Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Arrow Through Me”. The band frontman Luke Pritchard produced 10 tracks and J Lloyd produced the ninth track “Echo Chamber”.
From the album, the band released the first single called “Never Know” on January 31, 2025.
The song is accompanied by a lyric video.
It was written by Elina Stridh, Freddy Alexander, and Luke Pritchard who also produced the track.
The band frontman Luke Pritchard said of the song, “It’s a love song about a cute meet with someone unpredictable. I like the idea of it being played in a convertible on a road trip somewhere ridiculous. Because really, you never know.”- He added, “Our first single Never Know is about living without the fear and idea that you don’t know what’s around the corner, so live every day like it’s your last. This song was written when I realised I really understood love for the first time and when you have that connection, nothing else matters. You could die tomorrow. So you never know... do that thing, go to that place and make those memories.”
Initially, the new album started as Luke Pritchard's solo project. After making some demos, the band members joined in the album.
The album represents a return to the band’s creative origins.
Luke Pritchard said, “It’s not about going back to the first album’s sound, but to the roots of our influences and asking, ‘What is the identity of this band?' The whole thing was to just forget that the past had happened. What kind of music do we want to make, and how do we make it feel natural?”
Guitarist added, “At the heart of it, we both want the same thing, and that’s very powerful.” -
Luke Pritchard said of the album, “Never/Know is romantic, it’s a positive record, it’s sunshine, it’s about forgetting the bad things for half an hour. It’s impulsive, personal - the whole thing is a love letter to my wife and family and it’s really fucking good and we can’t wait for you to all hear it.” - source : Apple Music
