Jamie xx & Erykah Badu Team Up for New Song “F.U.”
British DJ and indie pop band The xx's member, Jamie xx joined forces with American singer-songwriter Erykah Badu to release a new song “F.U.” on January 19, 2025.
The song is featured on the deluxe edition of his sophomore album “In Waves”, which was releases on the same day.
The deluxe edition comprises 17 songs, including the original 12 songs and 5 new songs.
The track was written by Erykah Badu, James Smith, and Rodaidh McDonald. Produced by Jamie xx.
The track is based on a song by Erykah Badu that was performed at the Primavera festival afterparty a few years ago.
During her performance on stage, however, the equipment broke, and she ended up performing a cappella just a microphone.
Jamie xx recorded the happening on his iPhone, and later used the recording to complete the song during a studio session with Erykah Badu in London."- Jamie xx said of the song, “A few years ago, I was playing at a Primavera afterparty in Barcelona with Erykah Badu. The decks stopped working and she just freestyled this incredible acapella performance, fully improvised, just her and the mic. I managed to record a bit of that, and it became the basis for the track. We connected about it when I was finishing the album and it became a track I really love. I’m so happy that she is a part of In Waves. Thank you Erykah!”
