Ruth Lyon Releases New Song “Wickerman”
Newcastle-based singer-songwriter Ruth Lyon released a brand new song “Wickerman” along with a music video on January 29, 2025.
The song is the follow-up to “Dust - Demo” released last November and will appear on her upcoming debut album, which is expected to be released later this year.
The track reflects upon vulnerability and betrayal, featuring a powerful expression of resilience in the face of adversity.
It was written by Ruth Lyon and produced by John Parish.
Ruth Lyon said of the song, “Wickerman lives in the borders between lucid dreaming and painful reality and I wrote this at a time I found myself alone yet haunted. The iconography of the burning wickerman evokes the chasing away of winter through fire and ceremony, welcoming the Spring; a re-seeding of soul into new light. Unravelling life changes can be disorientating, kicking up heavy questions to ask and the only answers I found were in time, nature and spirit. I wanted to be remembered and more importantly to remember myself.”- The accompanying video was directed by Sel MacLean.
Ruth Lyon said of the video, “The video reflects the muted nature of the production capturing these textures and loosely depicts a priest, a groom and a bride in an uncomfortable marriage of self - the rebinding of a knackered heart with the looming witness watching on unbiased, expressionless, dancing. Time creeping closer like the tide. There is no end to the seasons of healing.” -
