Cat Burns Premieres New Song “GIRLS!” on BBC Radio 1
London-based singer-songwriter Cat Burns premiered a new song “GIRLS!” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song follows a cover of American rock band Wheatus' “teenage dirtbag” and the collaborative track “Even” with London-based singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri, both of which were released late last year.
The track was written by Britten Newbill, Cat Burns, and Chris Thomas. Produced by Kurisu.
Cat Burns said of the song, “For some reason people still don't know that I am in fact a big fat le$b!an so I made a song about fancying girls just to make it extra clear. I'm in a new era of my life now, I feel more comfortable & confident in myself and wanted my music to reflect that. I just wanted to make a silly flirty song about my love of women, I hope it makes you do a little dance when you listen. Ugh I'm so happy this song is out in the world. I JUST WANNA TALK ABOUT GIRLSSSSSSS.”- Cat Burns told Jack Saunders about song, “This is a very sexy, flirty song about girls. This is about girls in general. This is my love for women in general, both platonically and romantically. I mean, everyone knows that I'm queer. But I think I just wanted to make a fun song where I just spoke about how much I love women, and how much I love being a woman, and just how much I love women in general. I just feel like I've never had a song like that for me. Especially for all the queer girls, I just wanted to make a song where it's just fun, cheeky, flirty. People haven't heard this side of me before. It's been quite serious. I think, whereas this one's just a bit more fun, I'm in a fun place in my life as well.”

She continued, “I wrote this song in the summer, which I feel like you can hear. It's got, like a summer fun skip to it. The studio was boiling hot. We were all sweaty. We wanted to write this song as quickly as possible so we could get out. Because it was so hot. I've just been in and around and working with so many different people trying to work on this new vibe and new energy that I have, which is a lot more just fun and confident and flirty and and cheeky. So I've been working with a few different people. It's been fun.” - source : BBC Radio 1
