  • SASAMI Releases New Song “In Love With A Memory” featuring Clairo

  • Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter SASAMI joined forces with American singer-songwriter Clairo to release a new song “In Love With A Memory” on January 28, 2025.

The song is the fourth single off of her upcoming third studio album “Blood On the Silver Screen”, which is set to be released on March 7, 2025.
The track is accompanied by the Jay Swuen-directed music video.
SASAMI produced the song with producer Rostam Batmanglij. The song is inspired by traditional Japanese pop ballads

SASAMI said of the song, “'In Love With A Memory' was actually the first song I wrote that ended up on Blood On the Silver Screen. I grew up going to Japanese or Korean 'noraebang' private karaoke rooms with my mom, who was secretly the most incredible singer. Most of her go-to numbers were oooold Japanese and Korean folk songs that low key kind of made me feel like I was in a horror film or David Lynch movie.”
  • She continued, “I can picture my mom in a Julee Cruise-type setting - single, jazz lounge spotlight and cigarette smoke hanging stalely in the air - singing one of those old songs with the most gorgeously haunting vibrato and breathtaking vocal control. That's the feeling I was tapping into when I started writing 'In Love With A Memory', and there is a very timeless but relevant crooning feeling imbued in the song that I think was perfectly reflected by the production that Rostam and I orchestrated together. Claire has been a longtime, long distance friend and dream collaborator for me, so it was such a magnificent gift for her to lend her voice to the narrative. I really imagine this track as a cinematic duet with a ghost.”

  • SASAMI said of the video, “ILWAM is a duet with a ghost (Claire) and one of many cinematic snapshots on the album where Love is personified as a character. It shapeshifts as I (or the alien protagonist who has come to earth as a wild haired, denim-clad action film baddie Asian bitch) chase after it, my own form mutating and genre-drifting to try to understand, capture, kill, fuck? it. When Andrew Thomas Huang and I dreamt up the visual world and lore of Blood On the Silver Screen we gazed down a long desert highway with the form of this gritty western character speeding into frame in some old classic car. We longed to meet this Asian Americana (new genre?) hero-villain with a lioness mane and roaring blood lust whose fury was matched only by the magnitude of molten baby yearning bubbling inside. Jay Swuen who also DP'd our Honeycrash video was game to conjure this desert spirit on film. A part of the story where Love and memory melt away leaving only a pool of emptiness (but not emptiness bad, emptiness as a light). Space for more. A blank road. It took so much dreaming, scheming, sweating, searing, tearing, pushing, softness and harshness to make this place, person, film that we created and I'm so proud of it.”
