Tunde Adebimpe Announces Debut Solo Album “Thee Black Boltz”, Shares New Song “Drop”
Brooklyn-based rock band TV on the Radio's lead vocalist and singer-songwriter Tunde Adebimpe has announced his upcoming debut solo album “Thee Black Boltz” will be released on April 18, 2025 via Sub Pop Records.
From the album, Tunde Adebimpe released a new song “Drop” on January 28, 2025.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Magnetic” released last October.
It was written by Alissia Benveniste, Brian Bender, Jahphet Landis, Mason Sacks, and Tunde Adebimpe. Produced by Tunde Adebimpe and Jahphet Landis.
Tunde Adebimpe shared on social media, “I just wanted to say I am putting out a new song today, the song is called 'Drop'. And the song is from a record I made called 'Thee Black Boltz'. It's going to be out April 18, 2025 on Sub Pop Records. I made this record after a very long period of grief and despair, and it got me through it. I just wrote. I wrote and I drew, and then I made a record. It got me through a lot of shit, and I hope it gets you through a lot of shit whenever it comes out. And be kind to each other and don't let these assholes steal your joy, and I hope that you like the song.”- The solo album comprises a 11-track, which he recorded the album in his Los Angeles studio with producer Wilder Zoby.
There was additional production and contributions from TV on the Radio members Jaleel Bunton and Jahphet Landis.
Tunde Adebimpe said of the album, “The sparks of inspiration/motivation/hope that flash up in the midst of (and sometimes as a result of) deep grief, depression or despair. Sort of like electrons building up in storm clouds clashing until they fire off lightning and illuminate a way out, if only for a second... Also, It's a good name for a cool metal band, and I think that most people would describe me as akin to a very cool metal band.” -
He continued, “I've been doing this thing with this group of people for so long, that I can just have a vague sketch of a concept and I know Jaleel or Kyp will have five brilliant ideas on where it can go. But for Thee Black Boltz, I didn't have that scaffolding to hang on. That was both terrifying and exhilarating.” - source : Apple Music
