  • Chloe Qisha Premieres “21st Century Cool Girl” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based singer-songwriter Chloe Qisha premiered a new song “21st Century Cool Girl” on BBC Radio 1's Future Pop with Maia Beth.

The song is the first music since her self-titled debut EP, which was released last November.
Also, the track will appear on her upcoming sophomore EP.
It was written by Chloe Qi Sha Lim, and Rob Milton who also produced the track.
The accompanying music video was directed by bedroom projects.

Chloe Qisha said of the song, “21st Century Cool Girl is 'that' girl. An ode to my teenage self who treated everyday like I was in some 90s romcom. I loved reminiscing on the throws of past teenage romance - and the awkward heightened emotions that come with that - as well as growing up and owning your insecurities and being open and ready to love someone. It’s like putting your cards on the table and saying 'well, this is me. I’ll love you forever if you want in.'”
  • Chloe Qisha told Maia Beth about writing process for the song, “This is the only song from this upcoming EP where I actually don't remember a thing of how it came about. I've been like trying to rack my brain. I don't even remember when exactly we wrote it. I think it was maybe like late summer of last year. And I just remember we were just like me and Rob my collaborator, we were just kind of jamming out, as we usually do, playing all these funny like ABBA chords. And the title actually came, like, out of nowhere. I think one of us suggested it, and like, oh, this sounds like a song for like a cool girl. And then we were like, 21st century cool girl. But I think it was just, we were just having fun. Like, that's how all of our songs start, and that's how we write, nothing's off the table. We just see how silly we can push things too.”

  • She continued, “It's actually kind of about self love, even though, like I'm talking to like a lover. It's more about like me being the age that I am feeling more like, mature and settled and confident in myself, that I've like, fully appreciated and accepted every part of myself now, which is amazing. And I think it's like me saying to a lover, like, if you want in, you have to join my train, like you have to hop on board this train. And there's no compromises.”

She added about the song title, “I think it's about just being like, accepting who you are, or learning to do that like, it's a journey, for sure. And I still have, like, my days where I don't do that. But I think it's even like accepting the slightly more awkward and quirky parts of yourself and learning to, like, forgive yourself as well.”
