Peter Gabriel Announces New Platform “50:50”, Shares New Music Video for “OliveTree (Bright-Side Mix)”
British singer-songwriter Peter Gabriel has announced the launch of a new platform called 50:50.
50:50 provides the platform for visual creators to showcase all kinds of visual work alongside the music of Peter Gabriel.
Also, 50:50 has a fairer share of the revenue between the visual and music creators, rather than the music creators taking all the revenue like on YouTube.
Peter Gabriel dropped a new music video for “OliveTree (Bright-Side Mix)” created by Oranguerillatan as the first visual work on 50:50.
The video is one of the winners of the Stability AI video competition, which was held by Peter Gabriel between 2023 and 2024.
The song is featured on his the tenth studio album “I/O”, which was released in 2023.
The track was written and produced by Peter Gabriel.- Peter Gabriel said of the song, “This song is one of those taken from this next brain project that I am working on. We are entering a time in which reading each other's thoughts will become a normal part of our lives. In this story our hero puts on the brain scanning helmet, that turns thoughts into pictures, and then sees all the deep connections he has with the natural world and in particular to one olive tree.”
He continued, “In many ways, we are part of everything and we probably have the means to connect and communicate with everything, yet we often shut it off. We only want to see and listen to the things that seem important and relevant to us and shut out the noise of everything else. But probably, hidden in that noise, there are all sorts of things that can help us realise our place in this future world and help us remember we are still apes who need a healthy natural world to survive.” -
Peter Gabriel said of 50:50, “I've always loved working with visual artists and following on from the competition that we ran with Stability AI around the release of i/o, we are setting up 50:50 to encourage the creation of more of these collaborations. So if you have any type of visual work that you would like to try out alongside my music in a video, this is a place where you can explore it. Also, it didn't seem fair that the music creators get all the revenue on platforms such as YouTube, so we've called it 50:50 as we look to have a fairer share between the visual and music creators.”
