American rapper Chance the Rapper released a new song “Quiet Storm (2025)” on Inauguration Day via SoundCloud.
The song was delivered via his interdisciplinary Star Line project on the iconic radio format pioneered by Black DJs in Washington, D.C., during the late 1970s.
The track delves into themes of love, power, and identity, weaving a narrative that transforms a seemingly personal relationship into a broader reflection on the lingering effects of colonial oppression.
On the track, Chance the Rapper describes his complicated relationship with a mysterious special someone, who symbolizes oppressive colonial powers and the Western governments that have long impacted marginalized communities.
Chance the Rapper said, “I dedicate this record to an extra special listener.”- He explained about his new project Star Line, “I can say is my favorite project I've ever worked on. I can say it's a very immersive project, and all the different ways that we've been sharing it with the world, we've been doing our writings on the wall, private listening party, immersive experience thing in different cities. In short, it's a listening party of some of my unreleased music from my Star Line project. But it's a very different from your normal listening party.”
