  • IDER Releases New Song “Attachment Theory”

  • London-based alt-pop duo IDER, consisting of Megan Markwick (vocals/synth) and Lily Somerville (vocals/guitar), will release their upcoming third studio album “Late to the World” on February 21, 2025 via Nettwerk.

From the album, the duo released the sixth and final pre-release single called “Attachment Theory” on January 10, 2025.
The track is a soaring and reflective synth-pop anthem with the themes of love language and attachment.
It was written by Elizabeth Helen Somerville, Megan Alice Markwick, and Dann Hume who also produced the track.

The duo said of the song, “We wrote 'Attachment Theory' after a friend asked us to write a song about attachment styles. It seems as though everyone is obsessed with the idea and with self-diagnosing so we decided to write a confessional song about ours. On a deeper and more emotional level it's about the fear of being defined by the way you love and desperately wanting to change it.
  • The accompanying music video was directed by Basha de Bruijn.

They said of the video, “We made the video for 'Attachment Theory' with director and friend Basha De Bruijn. The concept was simple - us crying and 'getting through life' in everyday situations filmed around London and at Meg's flat, to capture the raw and real message of the song. The video was shot on 16mm film which made the final visual and the filming experience as true to life as possible.”

  • The new album is their first LP in four years since the 2021 album “Shame” and comprises 12 songs.
The duo recorded the album with producer Dann Hume on residency in his church-cum-studio between summer and autumn 2023.
They added the introduction of live drums in a recording for the first time.

The duo said of the album, “We had high ambitions for the sound of this record. We talked a lot early on about how we wanted the production to be super intentional. Sometimes when you’re unsure, you shove everything in – you fill it up with every synth sound, every beat, every layer. But actually what feels more mature for us right now, and what mirrors the [album’s] messages, is stripping things back to the essentials. Everything has its purpose.”
