Aly & AJ Releases New Song “What It Feels Like”
Los Angeles-based pop rock duo Aly & AJ, consisting of Alyson Michalka and Amanda Joy Michalka, released a new song “What It Feels Like” on January 10, 2025.
The song is the first single off of their upcoming sixth studio album “Silver Deliverer”, which is expected to be released in Spring 2025.
The duo first performed the song at Canyons Village last August.
The track was written by Aly Michalka, AJ Michalka, Drew Erickson, and Jonathan Wilson who also produced it.
Jonathan Wilson performed on drums, bass, electric guitar, wurlitzer, and zither, Joe Kennedy played piano on the track.
The duo said of the song, “'What It Feels Like' embraces new life stages as a woman in our objectifying culture. Written from the perspective of a new mother and a new aunt, about the beauty in noticing physical changes and resolving to admire them, prioritizing positivity and using family and sisterhood as a foundation to lean on during difficult mental health moments. It is also a response to an industry that doesn't tend to value women as they grow through life and represents a sound that is authentically two sisters who want to make rock music at any cost.”- The new album is their first body of work in two years since the 2023 album “With Love From”.
The duo recorded the album with producer Jonathan Wilson in the tranquil Topanga Canyon, California.
They infused the project with the spirit of fertility, nature, womanhood, motherhood, sisterhood and growth. -
The duo shared on social media, “We have a song out today but all we can think about is what’s happening to our city. We’re still navigating challenges with our own homes and feeling devastated by what some of our friends and neighbors are living through. Some of the people having a very challenging time are the same ones who helped us make this song and this album. We deeply respect the work they did. No artist is an island and so many talented people contribute to every single thing we do. The neighborhood where we tracked and mixed this song is still very much in danger. It needs all the resources we can gather. If listening to music for a moment seems like it would help, the song is here. It will still be here later when we are on the other side of this. Our hearts are broken and praying for a pause to all of this pain and suffering. Thank you to all the firefighters and first responders who are saving lives and saving cherished lands like Topanga Canyon. Please keep Los Angeles and all the families and animals impacted in your prayers. We need the deliverance.” - source : Apple Music
