The Amazons Premieres New Song “My Blood” on BBC Radio 1
British rock band The Amazons, consisting of Matt Thomson (vocals/guitar), Chris Alderton (guitar) and Elliot Briggs (bass), premiered a new song “My Blood” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single off of their upcoming fourth studio album “21st Century Fiction”, which is set to be released on May 9, 2025 via Nettwerk.
This time, the band teamed up with British rock band Royal Blood on the track.
Royal Blood's Mike Kerr co-wrote and co-produced the track, and Ben Thatcher performed on drums.
The track was written by Christopher Alderton, Elliot Briggs, Matthew Thomson, Mike Kerr, and Nick Atkinson. Produced by Mike Kerr and Chris Alderton.
The band frontman Matt Thomson said of the song, “'My Blood' is an exploration into why, when you truly believe in something, you can push yourself past the point of pain. It's not something you can intellectualise, it's something you feel. With age comes more responsibilities, obstacles, reasons to quit. But in 'My Blood' I wanted to illustrate a force out of our control, deep inside of us, that forsakes that rational thinking.”- He said of working with Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, “Mike was one of the first people I spoke to about collaborating on '21st Century Fiction'. He's become somewhat of a mentor over the years. He's one of the few in the industry I can pick up the phone to and sink away the hours.”
He added, “I felt this album and 'My Blood' was the right time to dig deeper into the shared language I feel we have. And any opportunity to work with artists we respect and admire is one we want to take.” -
Back in November 2024, Matt Thomson told NME about a collaboration with Royal Blood, “There's definitely a shared language, which was a thrill to see... in the barenaked creative process, in Royal Blood's studio. Mike [Kerr, frontman] was actually the first person attached to this record. I picked up the phone to him and said, 'Do you want to [produce] an Amazons record?' I think he was surprised, but excited and adamant that we were only going to do one song instead of the whole album. He said, 'We need to make sure that we shake each other's hands and remain friends after.'
He continued, “He really helped us craft the middle eight; that chord change is so Mike. We had most of the album done at this point, so it was a free shot. There was a little bit of back and forth… I turned up on the first day with half the lyrics, so I was a little insecure about not having a complete grasp of the song. That's the only place where we butted heads – he was suggesting some amazing stuff… because it wasn't mine, I was just pushing him back. But I apologised afterwards, and we're all good!”
