English Teacher Performs “Nearly Daffodils” on BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2025
Last November, BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2025 longlist has been announced.
The 11 acts in the running are Barry Can't Swim, Chappell Roan, Confidence Man, Doechii, English Teacher, Ezra Collective, Good Neighbours, KNEECAP, Mk.gee, Myles Smith, and Pozer.
The award is given to rising artists with "the best chance of mainstream success" in the next 12 months.
Past winners include Adele, Sam Smith, Michael Kiwanuka, PinkPantheress and Haim.
The winner will be announced in the New Year, with the top five revealed in reverse order between January 6 and January 10, 2025.
On January 6, 2025, Jack Saunders revealed on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show that Leeds-based indie rock band English Teacher has been voted in fifth place in BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2025 poll, and the band performed “Nearly Daffodils”.
The song is featured on their debut album “This Could Be Texas”, which was released last April.- The band guitarist Lewis Whiting told BBC, “We never really set out with an aim to create something specific. But, that's the fun part, right? Trying to make something new and interesting. It does feel dream-like. Best year of my life, craziest year of my life.”
The lead singer Lily Fontaine added, “Where we come from, this just doesn't happen. I keep telling people that I feel like I'm living in a simulation.” -
Lily Fontaine told Jack Saunders about the fifth place, “I've always said that it's really hard to have any kind of objective view of the music or how the band are being perceived, or how the music's been perceived. And I think that there's probably a million times that people have come up to us and it's triggered something in my head, a new way, a new perspective, like you said, of the music or of the project. But I have a really bad memory, and I can't remember a single specific situation.” - source : BBC Radio 1
